COURSE OUTLINE
Sinus Augmentation, considered to be one of the most tricky surgeries in the discipline of implant dentistry, will be challenged in this one day of intense hands-on, practical training program.
Many technical and surgical issues can challenge access to the maxillary sinus for augmentation, in both lateral and internal (crestal) access. Maxillary sinus augmentation have been predictable for several decades, but patient’s morbidity (pain, swelling, post-op complication, artery bleeding) have been published in many articles. The most serious, but common complication, is the tear of the Schneiderian membrane. Therefore, many clinicians have developed and published the repairing of membrane perforation during sinus bone augmentation. To overcome many of these clinical obstacles of traditional lateral window and internal or crestal sinus methods, a newly advocated technique, of hybrid lateral and internal sinus access, also known as the LISA technique (park et al 2014) will be covered in detail, together with the utilization of piezoelectric surgery device and platelet-rich fibrin(PRF), autologous concentrated growth factor. Autologous Sticky Augmentation Procedure (ASAP) protocol using biologically enhanced “sticky bone,” published in 2015, seems to show promise in simplifying many of the previous surgical challenges.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
• Understand applied anatomy and physiology of the maxillary sinus
• Understand case selection criteria for sinus augmentation procedure(s)
• Be familiar with step-by-step techniques for lateral window and crestal sinus approaches
• Understand the variations in the techniques available, including the “hybrid” Lateral and Internal Sinus Access (LISA) technique
• Understand the contemporary materials used in grafting and the rationale for the choices – from bone replacement grafts to natural enhancers such as PRF & CGF
• Gain insight into the simultaneous vs staged placement, and loading protocols
• Be able to recognize and manage pre- and post- operative complications
SPEAKER
Dr. Park is currently a clinical faculty member at AEGD,UCLA school of Dentistry, also Daegu Catholic University Hospital, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dept. as Adjunt professor and Executive Board and faculty member of Global Dental Implant Academy(GDIA). Dr. Eric Park is a Fellow & Diplomat International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), World Academy of Ultrasonic Piezoelectric Bone Surgery (WAUPS) and a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry(AAID), Academy of Osseointegration(AO), and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
He graduated from University Of Iowa, College of Dentistry where he had degree Doctor of Dental Surgery and researched in College of Medicine and the Dows institute for dental research. Dr. Park had post-graduated training at St.Joseph Hospital, Shanghai No.9 People’s Hospital, and Misch International Implant institute, Dawson Center, NYU, Medical college of Georgia, UCLA, USC, and many other implant-related courses to improve and focus his knowledge and skills. He also emphasizes foundational principle of biology, prosthetics and biomechanics that dictate the ultimate success of implant reconstruction. The surgical aspects of medicine became a life avocation, he found his passion for Implantology in dentistry. Dr. Park is co-inventor of LISA(Lateral & internal Sinus Access) technique as new sinus approach. He also facilitates lectures in the United States, Korea and Taiwan, China, Japan, Colombia and is licensed to practice in California, Colorado, Nevada, and Washington State.
